Calcite on Amethystine Quartz

LOCATION:
Guanajuato, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, Mexico
DESCRIPTION:
Cream-colored blades of Calcite, most forming rosettes to 13 x 12 mm in diameter, partly cover a thin plate of pale purple Amethyst crystals to 21 x 14 mm in size. The luster and color are very good, and the Calcite nicely contrasts with the underlying Amethyst. The Amethyst crystals have a weirdly elongated taper with striations perpendicular to the terminations. This fine old specimen dates to about the mid-1960s, when the Earl Calvert collection was assembled. In perfect condition. ex. Earl Calvert collection. Purchased in 1999 for my personal collection.
SIZE: 106 x 87 x 31 mm (Large Cabinet)
COLLECTION: ex. Bob Griffis Personal collection
