Pyrite with Calcite
Nanisivik Mine, Nanisivik, Baffin Island, Nunavut Territory, Canada

125 x 80 x 45 mm
Lustrous Pyrite has partly pseudomorphed Marcasite crystals up to 2.8 cm across. The surface of the pseudomorphs have many parallel faces. Some twins are present. A 2.5 cm, gray Dolomite rhomb covered with sparkly, micro Chalcopyrite crystals lies in the center of the specimen. Complex Pyrite crystals like these came out of the locale through several collectors who worked there as mining engineers and geologists, by helicopter transport, in the late 1980s and early 90s. Minor Calcite is present. No damage, but there is some residual Marcasite disease, common in these specimens. Purchased in 2009 for my personal collection.
