Barite with Realgar on Orpiment

Quiruvilca Mine, Quiruvilca District, Santiago de Chuco, Departamento de la Libertad, Peru

DESCRIPTION:

Translucent to transparent white Barite crystals, to 34 x 6 mm, with red Realgar on botryoidal orange Orpiment. These combos appeared at the 2010 Tucson show from a new find in Peru. The Barite crystals are very glassy with a great deal of transparency, and contrast beautifully with the orange surfaces. A few red Realgar crystals and small hemispheres of Orpiment are perched on some of the Barite crystals. Other Realgar crystals are scattered about. This is a really difficult to photograph specimen, as the Orpiment color is very sensitive to the light source. In excellent condition.
