Grossular garnet

Sierra de Cruces, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico

DESCRIPTION:

This is an exceptional specimen from this locality, with three sharp, richly-colored crystals of Grossular garnet nicely exposed on buff-colored matrix. Each garnet is slightly different colored, ranging from brown (2.1 cm) at one side of the specimen, to reddish brown at the middle garnet (1.6 cm), and capped by a rosy-colored garnet (2.2 cm) at the other end, which is penetrated by a sharp, greenish Vesuviatite (1.0cm). At his locality, Vesuviate associated with the Grossular garnets tends to give a more rosy appearance to the garnets. The garnets are damage free. Like all these specimens, this garnet was mechanically excavated without any repairs. This is an excellent specimen from this locality, collected December of 1991 by Casey Jones and Bob Griffis.
