Grossular garnet

Cerro de Moka, Sierra de Cruces,, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico

DESCRIPTION:

A single, sharp, dramatic, well-formed, lustrous, somewhat gemmy crystal of ruby-red Grossular garnet to 1.3 cm across, is perched on a well-trimmed strikingly contrasting white matrix. The garnet displays a flattened habit. The matrix is a mixture of fine-grained clear- to whitish-garnets and what is likely Wollastonite. Like all these specimens, this garnet was mechanically excavated without any repairs, and is very excellent condition. It displays well from nearly all sides. The piece is excellent for this locality, with great color and aesthetics. Collected December of 1992 by Graham Sutton and Bob Griffis.
