Chalcocite

DESCRIPTION:

Numerous, large and sharply-formed, thick crystals of Chalcocite are interjoined to create a fine and aesthetic cluster perched on massive Chalcocite matrix. The Chalcocite crystals have a beautiful blue iridescence, and the cluster is anchored by a large Chalcocite measuring 32 x 20 x 13 mm. Very slight chipping is present, not uncommon in these, as seen in the photos. Overall I think this is in very good condition. From the famous mid-1990s finds at the Flambeau Mine, these Chalcocites have already become U.S. classics. The mine was closed 20 years ago, is now reclaimed and future collecting is impossible. This is an ex. C. Carter Rich (Aldie, VA) specimen.
