Vanadinite with Calcite

San Carlos Mine, Mapimi District, Bufa de Mapimi, Municipio de Mapimi, Durango, Mexico

$650
Small Cabinet

76 x 68 x 48 mm

Very sharp, lustrous and translucent, barrel-shaped, caramel-colored Vanadinite are nested in a pocket of blocky, gemmy clear Calcite crystals to 5 mm. The Vanadinite crystals range up to 8 x 4 mm in size. The San Carlos Mine produced some of the finest Vanadinite in the Sonoran Desert region in the 1930s to 1952, and this specimen from the Earl Calvert collection is from this period. Prior to the Calvert acquisition, this specimen was in the personal collection of David B. Grigsby, and was later sold by Minerals Unlimited in the later 1950s. It is in excellent condition.
