Calcite on Quartz with Pyrite

This Idarado mine specimen is a huge (12 inches across and 18 pounds in weight) plate of Quartz crystals completely coated with small whitish Calcite scalenohedrons to 13 mm, which are then partly coated by sparkling, brassy metallic Pyrite. Although there is some bruising, this is a flashy specimen. The way the smaller crystals around the margin rise up to a massive single Quartz crystal makes for a very good display specimen from this truly classic San Juan locality, closed in 1978.
