Smithsonite after Dolomite on Quartz

$700

LOCATION:

Philadelphia Mine, Rush, Rush Creek Mining District, Marion County, Arkansas, USA

Brownish-yellow *turkey fat* Smithsonite has completely pseudomorphed the original Dolomite crystals, with their classic curved saddle-shapes. The Smithsonite wraps around the top of the brecciated, silicified limestone matrix which is coated with drusy, sparkly Quartz. This locality is documented in *Famous Mineral Localities: The Rush Creek District, Marion County, Arkansas*, Mineralogical Record V. 24, no. 4, (pp. 285–299). The entire area of the Philadelphia Mine is closed and is a protected site within the Buffalo National River since the 1970s. From the collection of R.F. Denicourt, it was later sold by David New (Montana) at $150 in the 1970s or earlier.
