Hematite ( var. Iron Roses ) on K-Feldspar ( var. Adularia )

Cavradi, Val Curnera, Tavetsch, Graubunden (Grisons) Canton, Switzerland

$2300
Large Cabinet

107 x 104 x 50 mm

An impressive, aesthetic and uncommon large combination plate from this famed Swiss locale. A dramatic, 5.4 cm cluster of lustrous, battleship-gray Hematite iron roses, to 19 x 19 x 15 mm, is attractively set on the undulating plate of glassy, blocky, white K-feldspar (var. Adularia) to 23 x 12 mm, and accented with minor Quartz. The form and stout quality of the "roses" in the cluster is noteworthy. The rich peppering of small Hematite crystals and sparkly, green Muscovite plates to 2 mm on the Adularia crystals is a super accent. The iron rose cluster has 360-degree visual appeal. This is a most excellent and uncommonly large example of the combination species from this classic locale. Obviously an old specimen, it has unusually great aesthetics.
