Quartz (var. Prase) with Hematite

DESCRIPTION:

This is an excellent specimen of classic Serifos Island prase Quartz on fibrous matrix. Many large (up to 5.1 cm) green prase Quartz cystals with the classic cigar-like shape are aesthetically perched on a contrasting fibrous matrix of Hedenbergite or Actinolite with a Hematite rosette accent. As typical for Prase Quartz from Serifos, the crystals are elongated and do not show individual rhombohedral faces at the ends. Instead, the ends look like rounded bundles of many small crystals. I can find no damage except at the margins where it was removed from the skarn, and this could be trimmed further. This is of Great quality and displays well! My source tells me the zone is mined out, so specimens of this quality will not be around for long.
