Elbaite tourmaline with Quartz

Mesa Grande, San Diego Co., California, USA

Sold
Miniature

53 x 36 x 34 mm overall

Light-smoky Quartz with multiple terminations hosts a number of hot-pink Elbaite (v. Rubellite) tourmalines. A single gemmy Rubellite crystal, measuring 14 x 2.5 mm, bridges two of the Quartz points. Purple lepidolite and Albite blades accent the specimen. There are some broken tourmalines around the edges, but those in the Quartz termination are perfect. This specimen is a very early piece from the A.G. Boynton collection. Boynton was a mining engineer circa 1910-1920, and City Manager of Boulder City, Nevada in the mid-1940s. He assembled a nice collection of rare specimens from the localities of the 1910s to the 1940s.
