Sphalerite with Quartz, Chalcopyrite and Gypsum
Tri-State District, Kansas/ Missouri/ Oklahoma, USA
102 x 80 x 30 mm overall
A flashy, rare, old-time, classic, Tri-State combination specimen. Sparkly, glassy Quartz crystals completely covering a classic chert matrix, are richly- and aesthetically-sprinkled with lustrous, gemmy, ruby-jack Sphalerite crystals to 7 mm. Brassy Chalcopyrite crystals to 2 mm are scattered about the bright-red Sphalerite. Thin blades of translucent-white Gypsum to 8 mm provide a nice accent. Quartz is relatively rare from the entire Tri-State District, and this very showy, excellent and rare combination piece from this historic district is in excellent condition. This is from the A.G. Boynton collection. Boynton was a mining engineer circa 1910-1920, and City Manager of Boulder City, Nevada in the mid-1940s. He assembled a nice collection of rare specimens from the localities of the 1910s to the 1940s.
