Tetrahedrite
Bingham Canyon Mine, Bingham District, Oquirrh Mts., Salt Lake Co., Utah, USA
82 x 61 x 32 mm overall
Sharp, lustrous, tetrahedral crystals of dark metallic Tetrahedrite to 19 mm across nearly completely cover a yellow Sphalerite matrix accented with bright brassy Chalcopyrite crystals to 1 mm. Although this is one of the largest and highest-grade porphyry orebodies in the world, good crystallized specimens are not often available on the mineral market. I have never seen a Tetrahedrite of this quality from Bingham Canyon, and it is in excellent condition. This is from the A.G. Boynton collection. Boynton was a mining engineer circa 1910-1920, and City Manager of Boulder City, Nevada in the mid-1940s. He assembled a nice collection of rare specimens from the localities of the 1910s to the 1940s.
