Quartz (var. Prase / Amethyst)

Mine 2, Huanggang Mine, Keshiketeng Co., Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia A.R., China

$500
Large Cabinet

166 x 51 x 37 mm overall

A pair of lustrous, light-green Quartz (var. Prase) crystals with very-well-defined polycrystalline surfaces, with the tapered, spindle shape typical of specimens from this locality. These two Quartz crystals are perfectly terminated, measure 166 x 32 x 27 mm and 113 x 21 x 19 mm respectively, and the bases are mostly recrystallized. I only found one very small chip that is obscured by the complex crystallization. The prism faces consist of hundreds of small rhombohedral faces.

What sets this specimen apart are the purple, amethystine phantoms visible when viewed down the crystal's c-axis. This is a top example from a find of hedenbergite-included Quartz made sometime in mid-2013, and is in near perfect condition.

Specimen #  CH14-5
