Fluorite on Calcite

Pint's Quarry, Raymond, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, USA

Sold
Small Cabinet

70 x 69 x 63 mm overall

A cluster of sharp, dark-caramel cubes of Fluorite to 13 mm across is perfectly placed atop a matrix covered with translucent to glassy scalenohedrons of Calcite to 6 mm. These modified cubes of Fluorite are lustrous and opaque. The reverse of the specimen contains many vugs filled with scalenohedrons of Calcite and a few butterfly twins. This specimen is free of damage, displays well, and is from a locality that was closed in the 1990s and is now flooded. You don't often see specimens from Iowa, of all places, and this is a great opportunity.

Fluorescent yellow in SW.
