Quartz (var. Prase) with Hematite

Avissalos Mtn, Serifos Island, Cyclade Islands, Kyklades Prefecture, Aegean Islands Department, Greece

Large Cabinet

100 x 75 x 60 mm

This is a really great specimen of prase Quartz from the classic locality of Serifos Island. A matrix of iron roses of Hematite, partially covered with yellowish druze, hosts a nearly 8.0 cm green prase Quartz crystal, which is also partially covered with the same yellowish druze coating. It sits vertically on the matrix. A superb 5.8 cm fan-shaped spray of green prase Quartz partly covered with the same yellowish druse perfectly balances the specimen. The yellowish druze (probably Quarz) provides an interesting and striking accent with its nice luster and color contrast. The prase Quartz looks like it is partially covered with sparkling brown sugar! There is only a small area at the base of the vertical prase Quartz where an intergrown Quartz is missing, which does not affect the overall aesthetics of this superb specimen! No chipping or damage on any of the prase Quartz. This is of Top quality and displays well! My source in Greece tells me the zone is mined out, so specimens of this quality will not be around for long.
