Azurite

Lavrion District Mines, Lavrion (Laurium) District, Attikí (Attika) Prefecture, Greece

$175
Small Cabinet

71 x 51 x 30 mm overall

This specimen hosts numerous, lustrous rich-royal-blue balls of Azurite to 2.5 mm on both sides of contrasting pale bluish-white matrix. Unlike many specimens from the ancient Laurium mining district, this specimen contains Azurite rosettes and not just crusts. The pale matrix seems to be a combination of botryoidal Hemimorphite and Calcite, though it has not been analyzed. A few missing "balls" are barely noticeable and do not detract from this nice and affordable specimen.
