Andradite garnet ( var. Demantoid )

Belqeys Mountain (Kuh-e-Belgheys), near Takab, West Azarbaijan Province, Iran

Sold
Miniature

49 x 45 x 27 mm overall
up to a 26 mm Demantoid

This enormous, 26 mm, lustrous, perfectly-terminated, bright-green to forest-green Andradite (v. Demantoid) garnet crystal is perfectly perched on matrix and accompanied by several other gemmy-green demantoids, and accented by minor white Calcite. These garnets have great luster. These are from a new find in Iran, far from the previous Kerman locality, and I was able to secure 3 of the top specimens available. This specimen is the best of the group, and is in excellent condition with only a single negative face on the reverse where it grew against another garnet. Unlike most demantoid garnets which have a yellowish tint, these are a nice true green color. The camera had a difficult time capturing the gemminess and intense color of these garnets, and they are much nicer in person.
