Elbaite tourmaline with Lepidolite

San Diego Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California, USA

Sold
Miniature

30 x 14 x 11 mm

This gemmy and lustrous hot pink and pale green bicolor Elbaite is from the San Diego Mine. The pyramidal termination is slightly modified, and it has several small interpenetrating pink Elbaite crystals. Several 8mm pink sidecar Elbaites, a reddish inclusion and pale purple Lepidolite provide a nice accent. Mined by Eugene Rynerson in the early 1970s, he let out very few specimens during his life, and this has just been released by his grandson. This Elbaite looks much like specimens from the adjacent Himalaya Mine which exploits the same pegmatite dike. This is a great opportunity to own a specimen from this seldom available locality. In great condition with only a few very trivial chipping visible under a 10 power loupe.
