Quartz with Tourmaline (var. Dravite) and Anatase

Pastoruri Mountain, near Huaraz, Bolognesi Province, Dept. de Ancash, Peru

DESCRIPTION:

This is a classic Alpine-type smoky Quartz crystal of Tessin habit, measuring 114 mm in length. It is somewhat distorted due to the heavy inclusions of acicular brown Tourmaline (var. Dravite). Hundreds of needle-like crystals of Dravite cover the base of the specimen, and the Quartz is accented with steel-blue Anatase crystals to 1.5 mm. The termination is perfect and the base is recrystallized. This fine Peruvian specimen was obtained from Jaroslav Hyrsl in 2006.
