Mimetite

San Pedro Mine, Municipio de Cerro de San Pedro, San Luis Potosi, Mexico

Sold
Small Cabinet

67 x 62 x 47 mm overall
with 7 mm Mimetites

Fiery bright red-orange balls of Mimetite are perched on grey matrix and accented by lustrous, clear Calcite. There is some marginal damage. The find is documented in Rocks & Minerals, March 2001, "In the early 1960s, one or more pockets of these bright red-orange mimetite as botryoidal masses...were found in the workings at the San Pedro mine near the city of San Luis Potosi." These specimens are quite rare. This is ex. Rolf Wein (Stuttgart, Germany) collection; Wein purchased it from H. Windisch (Canada) in December 1968.
